At Innovative Eye Care, we have a particular interest in myopia control and management for children and adults. Myopia, or short-sightedness, can progress rapidly, increasing the risk of serious eye conditions later in life. Our goal is to slow myopia progression using evidence-based treatments, customised to each patient’s needs.

What is Myopia Control?

Myopia control involves more than prescribing standard glasses. Traditional lenses correct vision but do not slow eye growth or axial elongation. Our myopia management plans combine advanced optical treatments, lifestyle recommendations, and regular monitoring to help preserve long-term eye health. For more information click here.

Evidence-Based Myopia Control Treatments

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)

Ortho-K contact lenses are worn overnight to gently reshape the cornea, providing clear daytime vision without glasses. Studies show Ortho-K can significantly reduce the progression of myopia in children and teenagers.

DIMS & MiyoSmart Glasses

DIMS lenses (Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments), such as MiyoSmart by Hoya, are specially designed glasses that slow myopia progression while offering comfortable, clear vision.

MiSight & Multifocal Contact Lenses

MiSight daily disposable contact lenses are FDA-approved and clinically proven to slow myopia in children. Other soft multifocal options provide similar benefits while correcting vision.

Low-Dose Atropine Eye Drops

For some patients, low-dose atropine eye drops are prescribed as a non-invasive treatment. These drops have been shown to effectively reduce myopia progression with minimal side effects.

Lifestyle & Prevention

Alongside treatments, lifestyle factors play an important role in managing myopia. We recommend:

  • At least 2 hours of outdoor time daily
  • Limiting near work to 45-minute intervals
  • Regular eye health check-ups and ocular biometry to track axial length
